In a list sourced from Forbes, of the world’s wealthiest individuals, India’s Mukesh Ambani has ranked 10th richest in 2024.
Interestingly, the net worth of the top 10 richest people globally, exceeds the GDP of a number of countries. Today, their wealth is primarily concentrated in technology, finance, and retail industries, according to Forbes.
Forbes reports that as of March 2024, the number of billionaires has reached 2,555, marking a staggering 19-fold increase compared to the figures from 1987.
Here is the list of the exclusive club of wealth people the world over with some details about them:
- Bernard Arnault, 74, the richest person in the world is a French citizen. He is the CEO and chairman at Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton (LVMH), the world’s largest luxury goods company.
- Jeff Bezos, 60, is a US citizen. He gave up his role as CEO of Amazon in July 2021 while retaining the position of chairman.
- Elon Musk, 52, is a US citizen. He is the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX. Musk purchased Twitter in October 2022.
- Mark Zucherberg, 39, is a US citizen. He is the co-founder and CEO of Meta Platforms. He started the social media platform Facebook when he was 19 years old.
- Larry Ellison, 79, is a US citizen. He co-founded Oracle in 1977. Currently he is the company’s chairman and chief technology officer.
- Warren Buffet, 93, is a US citizen. An astute investor, he is the head of Berkshire Hathaway, an investment conglomerate.
- Bill Gates, 68, is a US citizen. In 1987, Forbes first recognised Gates as a billionaire. From 1995 to 2017, he maintained the title of the world’s richest person, except for a few years.
- Stever Ballmer, 67, is a US citizen. He was the CEO of Microsoft from 2000 to 2014. He made headlines by acquiring the Los Angeles Clippers basketball team for a staggering $2 billion
- Larry Page, 50, is a US citizen. He co-founded Google in 1998. Currently, he is on the board of Alphabet, the parent company of Google.
- Mukesh Ambani, 66, is an Indian citizen. He is the richest person in India and Asia. The chairman of Reliance Industries, his company operates the largest petrochemical refinery in the world.
