The rest of the IPL 2022 matches for Chennai Super Kings will once again be played under the captain cool- MS Dhoni as Ravindra Jadeja has opted to step down from the position and has handed over the captaincy to the former CSK skipper.
“Ravindra Jadeja has decided to relinquish captaincy to focus and concentrate more on his game & has requested MS Dhoni to lead CSK. MS Dhoni has accepted to lead CSK in the larger interest & to allow Jadeja to focus on his game,” CSK stated in its statement.
The yellow army will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad at MCA stadium, Pune on May 1 and will be led by MS Dhoni. However, the journey in IPL 2022 for the four-time champions has been nothing less than bizarre as so far the team has lost six out of their eight matches and is at the number 9 position on the points table.
Ravindra Jadeja had taken over as the captain of CSK from the beginning of this season’s IPL and at the current position, chances of the team reaching the play-offs are very thin as they will have to win all their remaining six matches with good margins in order to make it to the play-offs. Notably, if this does not happen then this would be the second time in the history of IPL that CSK could not qualify for the play-offs.
