A Mozambican student of a private university was discovered dead in Vadodara’s Khatamba Pond on August 19, 2024. The victim was identified as Karlo Fernandez. He was studying at Parul University.
A speeding Artiga car, owned by Gautam Zinzala, careened into the pond on Sunday morning. After an arduous 10-hour effort, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) managed to retrieve the submerged vehicle. The car’s driver, Dipak Ladumor, had fled the scene but informed Zinzala that a foreign student was seen attempting to exit the car during the mishap.
On Monday evening, Karlo Fernandez’s body was recovered from the same pond. Investigations reveal that Karlo resided near Ajwa Chokdi and had been in the car to meet a friend in Shankarpura, a locality near the city. The car incident occurred while he was returning from Shankarpura.
Karlo Fernandez was a student at Parul University, a privately run institution. According to Zinzala, he rented out his car with driver Dipak at the request of a foreign student. The police have booked Dipak under the Motor Vehicle Act pending further investigation.
