The Covid pandemic hit Bollywood and movie theatres quite hard. But in recent months, theatres have gotten a chance to recoup their massive losses. Sooryavanshi is proving to be the perfect revival pill; the films good box office collection is proof of that. It’s worth mentioning that the Hollywood fantasy action drama Eternals, which has earned Rs 27.24 crore in India until now, is also supporting the Bollywood hit. The two movies have done good business in cinemas across Gujarat.
The last lot of movies to do wonders on Box office was Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior with a collection of 269.7 Crores and Street Dancer 3D which was able to pull in the business of 62.2 crores, both of these films were released post-pandemic.
Rakeshbhai Patel, director, Wide Angle Ahmedabad & Mehsana, and member of The Multiplex Association of Gujarat, explains, “Multiplexes have opened after such a long time; my theatre reopened after 14 months. But now people are enjoying the films.” Patel also shared details of the box office receipts for Eternals and Sooryavanshi, saying, “If we look at the ticket sales of Sooryvanshi for the first 10 days, the initial four days were very good, but on the 5thd day, sales dropped due to the festive period. Since last weekend, they have picked up again.”
He adds, “Total tickets sold for both movies combined for the last 10 days until now are 27,339, out of this, we sold approximately 4,438, 4356, and 4,350 tickets in the first three days. Sooryavanshi has slowed down the business of English films; Eternals is loved by mostly kids until now.”
Vandan Shah, secretary of Cinema Owners Exhibitors Association, Gujarat and The Director of Rupam Entertainment Pvt Ltd also threw some light on this matter. He explains, “Sooryavnshi’s first-week box office collection across Gujarat and Saurashtra was approximately Rs 28 crore. In the recent three days of its second week, the film has collected approximately Rs 7 crore. Until now, the film has done a collection of Rs 35 crore.”
Shah also adds that Eternals did a pretty decent job at the box office. “These films took off because theatres were closed for such a long time and people were looking forward to getting entertained. Also, Diwali provided the perfect excuse for people to come out and enjoy themselves.”
According to a Boxofficeindia.com report quoted by a publication, “Sooryavanshi is looking at a huge Sunday as it shows a growth of around 40 per cent to collect in the Rs 14 crore net range. There is phenomenal growth in Gujarat again and the collections may even hit Rs 3.50 crore.”
“The second weekend of the film is looking to be around the Rs 34-35 crore net mark, which will take the 10-day total to Rs 155 crore net,” the report stated.
