A heinous crime in the Kheda district proved that mothers, the life-givers, can be lifetakers too. Manisha Churana, a 20-year-old woman from Matar Taluka, murdered her newborn child minutes after giving him birth. According to the reports, she drowned the newborn in a water bucket inside a hospital toilet.
Speculations say that the woman had conceived the child following an affair. As per the Vaso police, the woman hails from Shihoni village. On Saturday, she married Sunil Chunara of Pij village, Kheda district.
On Wednesday, the staff of a community health centre (CHC) in Vaso suspected a newly married woman may have committed a gruesome crime on their premises. The report says she told her husband that she was going to CHC to consult a gynaecologist. At 10:15 AM, she reached CHC and went inside the toilet immediately.
The PSI of Vaso, HJ Rathod, is the investigation officer for the case. He told the media, “She gave birth to the baby unassisted in the washroom. When the baby started crying, she cupped his face with her hand. Later, she drowned him in the water bucket. After this, she left the child in the washroom and went to her husband’s place in Plij. At 12:30 PM, a sanitation worker found a newborn lying dead inside the bucket at the CHC toilet. They informed the hospital staff.”
“We found the newborn’s dead body when we reached the spot. We have sent it for post-mortem. Manisha was one of the four-woman who visited the CHC on Wednesday. However, she left the premises without a medical check-up,” he added. On Thursday, the police reached her house in Plij. However, they discovered that her health was depleting due to forced delivery without medical supervision. “We admitted her to the hospital due to her poor health condition. The police are awaiting her recovery to record her statement.”
The cops suspect that she conceived the baby out of an affair with another man. Surprisingly, the husband could not find out about her pregnancy. We have also taken DNA samples of the child and the mother for the maternity test.”
