In a major setback for Jaysukh Patel, the owner of Oreva Company, the Supreme Court has rejected his bail plea in connection with the Morbi bridge collapse tragedy that occurred in October 2022. The court advised Patel to seek bail from either the lower court or the Gujarat High Court.
The Supreme Court’s decision came as a blow to Patel, who had been hoping for relief from the apex court. The court’s reasoning was that Patel should first pursue bail remedies through the lower judicial system before approaching the Supreme Court.
The Morbi bridge collapse, which took place on October 30, 2022, resulted in the tragic deaths of 135 people. Oreva Company was responsible for the maintenance and management of the bridge, and Patel, as the company’s MD, was held accountable for the negligence that led to the catastrophe.
Following the collapse, a complaint was filed at the Morbi City B Division Police Station, leading to the arrest of nine employees of the agency tasked with maintaining the bridge. The complaint alleged that the bridge collapsed due to Oreva Company’s negligence.
