Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been invited by US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden to visit the United States from June 21 to June 24. The highlight of the visit will be Prime Minister Modi’s address to a joint session of the United States Congress on June 22, a historic feat that no Indian Prime Minister has accomplished before.
The invitation to deliver this prestigious speech was extended by both the House of Representatives and the Senate, showcasing the widespread bipartisan support and admiration for Prime Minister Modi in the United States. The invitation letter, sent by President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, lauded PM Modi’s previous historic address to the US Congress seven years ago, which played a pivotal role in strengthening the bond between the two nations.
The White House emphasized that this event is an opportunity to reaffirm the deep and enduring alliance between the United States and India. Prime Minister Modi expressed his gratitude for this privilege and eagerly awaits the chance to address the joint session, recognizing the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership shared between the two countries, built upon democratic values, strong people-to-people connections, and a steadfast commitment to global peace and prosperity.
Kurt Campbell, the top official for the Indo-Pacific region in the US administration, believes that this visit could solidify the relationship with India as the most important for the United States worldwide. Commending India for its critical global role, Campbell noted that numerous business and investment groups are eyeing India as a prime destination for new investment opportunities, aiming to diversify global supply chains.
With US universities actively seeking to train more engineers and technology specialists, Campbell expressed the United States’ desire for additional avenues to open up for Indian talent. Meanwhile, the Indian diaspora in the United States eagerly anticipates Prime Minister Modi’s arrival. To welcome him, an ‘India Unity March’ will be organized in 20 different cities across the US on June 18. Furthermore, a grand cultural event showcasing India’s growth and development over the past nine years is scheduled to take place in front of the White House on June 21.
Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the United States and his historic address to the US Congress signify the strengthening of ties between the two nations and highlight the mutual respect and partnership that underpin their relationship. As the first Indian Prime Minister to address the US Congress twice, Modi’s speech holds significant weight and is expected to further enhance the bilateral cooperation and shared vision between India and the United States.
