The Union Cabinet, in its first meeting under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, granted government assistance for the development of three crore houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
This was the initial meeting of the Modi 3.0 government’s Union Cabinet, which took place at the Prime Minister’s residence at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg.
Ministers from every NDA ally attended the meeting.
“It has been decided in the Cabinet meeting today to provide assistance to three crore additional rural and urban households for the construction of houses to meet the housing requirements arising out of the increase in the number of eligible families,” officials said.
Since 2015-16, the central government has been assisting eligible rural and urban households in building homes with only the essential utilities under the PMAY scheme.
The housing initiatives under PMAY have completed 4.21 crore houses for eligible families with low incomes in the past 10 years.
Basic utilities like working household taps, LPG connections, power connections, and toilets are provided to every home built under PMAY by merging with other government-funded projects.
