BJP leader Narendra Modi is set to be sworn in as the Prime Minister of India for an unprecedented third consecutive term, today. Alongside Modi, his council of ministers will also take the oath of office, with several leaders and MPs from Gujarat expected to be sworn in as Union Ministers.
Among these MPs is Amit Shah, the incumbent Home Minister and MP-elect from Gandhinagar Lok Sabha seat. Shah, who has served as the BJP chief and has been the Home Minister since 2019, is also the first Minister of Cooperation since the ministry’s establishment in 2021. He secured a resounding victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha election, winning by a margin of 7.44 lakh votes.
C.R. Patil, the Gujarat BJP chief, is set to become a minister for the first time. Patil, who has been elected as the MP of Navsari Lok Sabha seat for the fourth time, holds the record for winning Lok Sabha polls with the highest margin in Gujarat. His leadership saw the BJP secure a historic victory in the assembly election, winning 156 out of 182 seats – the most won by any political party in Gujarat’s history.
Nimuben Bhamania, the MP from Bhavnagar who hails from the Koli community, will be taking the oath as a Union Minister for the first time. Bhamania, who has previously served as the mayor of Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation and held various positions within the party, won the Bhavnagar Lok Sabha seat in her maiden parliamentary contest.
Mansukh Mandaviya, the former Rajya Sabha MP and incumbent Health Minister, is also set to return as a Union Minister. Mandaviya, who won the Lok Sabha election from the Porbandar parliamentary constituency, will continue his service in the Union cabinet.
The fifth Union Minister from Gujarat will be Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, an elected Rajya Sabha MP from the state. Jaishankar, a former diplomat, has held the position of Minister of External Affairs since 2019.
