In a General Assembly meeting of the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation, Councilor Miraben Patel and Natwarji Mathurji Thakor were unanimously elected as the new Mayor and Deputy Mayor, respectively, by the 41 members of the ruling BJP. Gaurang Vyas has also been appointed as the Chairman of the Standing Committee.
Miraben Patel, the newly elected Mayor, expressed her gratitude for the progress achieved under the leadership of Hiteshbhai Makwana in the past two and a half years. She highlighted the upcoming term’s focus on prioritizing the development of newly included villages within the city and the corporation.
Prior to the assembly, the ruling party engaged in extensive consultations to ensure consensus on the nominees. State-level BJP leaders conducted coordination meetings with councillors, workers and MLAs to gather their input.
The process to elect a new female mayor in Gandhinagar, originally slated for April, was delayed by two months due to the Lok Sabha elections and the subsequent formation of the new government.
The list of newly appointed officials includes Miraben Yogeshbhai Patel as Mayor, Natwarji Mathurji Thakor as Deputy Mayor, Gaurangbhai Vyas as Chairman of the Standing Committee, Sejalben Kanubhai Parmar as Dandak and Anil Singh Vaghela as Party Leader.
The Standing Committee members are Jashpal Singh Bihola, Chayaben Trivedi, Papatsinh Gohil, Tejalben Nai, Shaileshbhai Patel, Shailaben Trivedi, Ushaben Thakor, Kailasben Sutraiya, Bharatbhai Gohil, Alpaben Patel and Meenaben Solanki.
