The 2023 Met Gala red carpet event was held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, celebrating the exhibition “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.” It was filled with dazzling outfits, renowned guests, pearls, starched collars, and black and white to honour the late fashion icon.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art hosted around 400 guests, including actresses Priyanka Chopra, Elle Fanning, Brooklyn and Nicola Peltz-Beckham, and singer Rita Ora with her husband Taika Waititi. Lil Nas X arrived looking like a mythical creature, clad in pearls and painted silver.
However, embattled actor Jonathan Majors had been slated to attend as a guest of Valentino, but “mutually agreed” with the fashion house not to attend on the heels of assault charges stemming from a March incident.
Kim Kardashian attended the event wearing a Schiaparelli design dripping in pearls. Kardashian got the inspiration for the dress from her visit last week to the Karl Lagerfeld office in Paris.
Indian actress Alia Bhatt made her Met Gala debut wearing a white gown embellished with pearls designed by Prabal Gurung, which was in line with the event’s theme. She also posed with the designer.
Desi Girl Priyanka Chopra arrived on the red carpet with her husband Nick Jonas. The couple wore matching Valentino outfits in black. Isha Ambani, daughter of billionaire Mukesh Ambani, also attended the event wearing a Prabal Gurung’s black silk saree gown.
Gigi Hadid wore a strapless corset top and a low-rise black skirt by Givenchy, complimented by three pearl necklace strings, black mesh overlay, sheer gloves, stud earrings, and black stilettos. Albanian singer Dua Lipa, American rapper A$AP Rocky, Michelle Yeoh, known for Everything Everywhere All at Once, Olivia Rodrigo, bestie Conan Gray, an American professional basketball player Dwyane Wade also attended the event.
The Met Gala is known for its star-studded guest list and extravagant outfits that attract much public attention. Kim Kardashian made headlines last year by wearing a $4.8m rhinestone-studded dress once worn by Marilyn Monroe.
Meanwhile, Priyanka Chopra had turned heads with her debut appearance draped in a Ralph Lauren trench coat dress. In 2018, she embodied the “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” theme with a deep ruby-red velvet gown. In 2019, Chopra showcased a stunning display of whimsy and extravagance in a statement Dior gown.
