At least six people lost their lives and 41 others sustained burn injuries in a devastating fire that erupted following a collision between a truck loaded with chemicals, an LPG tanker and several other vehicles near a fuel station on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway on Friday. The incident occurred in the Bhankrota area of Jaipur, with the fire quickly spreading to the nearby fuel pump.
Several vehicles parked at the fuel station were engulfed in flames. Authorities deployed around 20 fire tenders to bring the inferno under control, with visuals from the scene showing towering flames consuming the area as firefighters worked tirelessly.
The injured were rushed to Jaipur’s Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital for treatment. Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma visited the hospital to oversee the care being provided and issued instructions to ensure the best possible treatment for the victims.
Expressing his condolences, Sharma wrote on X:
“I am deeply saddened to hear the tragic news of casualties in the gas tanker fire incident on the Jaipur-Ajmer National Highway. Upon receiving the information, I visited SMS Hospital and directed the doctors to provide immediate medical care to the injured. Rescue operations are ongoing, and the local administration is fully engaged. I pray for the departed souls and wish strength to the bereaved families while hoping for a swift recovery of the injured.”
Jaipur District Magistrate Jitendra Soni confirmed that 41 people were injured in the incident and transported to the hospital for treatment.
“Around 40 vehicles caught fire, and relief operations are underway. The blaze has largely been brought under control, with just one or two vehicles still requiring attention. The fire was triggered by a chain reaction of collisions between multiple vehicles,” Soni stated during a media briefing.
