In light of the unstable situation in Manipur, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has cancelled his rallies in Maharashtra on Sunday and is returning to Delhi.
According to the reports, he will likely convene a meeting to discuss the current situation in the northeastern state.
Even as security forces thwarted an agitator’s attempt to storm Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s ancestral home, enraged demonstrators in several Imphal Valley districts set fire to the residences of three more Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators, including a senior minister and a Congress MLA, on Saturday night.
Shah has called off his scheduled participation at a few of election rallies in Maharashtra as part of the BJP’s campaign and is heading back to the nation’s capital.
The sources indicated that the unstable situation in Manipur may be the reason for the cancellation of the minister’s rallies, although there was no official statement on the matter.
