There has been a massive rise in opium and ganja production in Gujarat.
As per the official figures of Gujarat police, 14,258 kg of ganja worth Rs 12.01 crore was seized between 2019 to 2021. In the same period, 1,803 kg of opium worth Rs 77.44 lakh was seized.
Recently, Gujarat DGP Ashish Bhatia had instructed a crackdown against narcotics, after which police began a massive drive.
In 2019, about 3,558 kg of ganja was seized, which increased threefold in 2021, when the figure was 9,102 kg. Meanwhile, about 525 kg of opium was seized in 2019, and the number jumped to 710 kg in 2021.
