Milind Deora, who left the Congress to join Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena earlier this year, will be contesting against Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray for the Worli seat in Mumbai.
Aaditya Thackeray, son of Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray, is the current MLA from Worli, having won the seat in 2019.
Taking to X (formally Twitter), Deora said, “Chief Minister Eknath Shinde ji believes that justice for Worli and Worlikars is long overdue. Together, we’re paving the way forward and will share our vision soon. It’s Worli NOW!”
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Deora, a Rajya Sabha MP who joined the Shiv Sena in January, was given the Worli seat.
According to reports, the Shinde-led party expects Deora can maintain its influence in Worli and appeal to the wealthy residents of the area as well as middle-class Maharashtrians and fishermen.
In an attempt to attract support from the Shiv Sena, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), led by Raj Thackeray, reportedly fielded Sandeep Deshpande from Worli.
Along with the BJP and Ajit Pawar-led NCP, the Shiv Sena is a part of the Mahayuti alliance.
The Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT) and Sharad Pawar-led NCP are the three major parties that make up the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA).
