Former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja, a member of the Jamnagar royal family, has been declared as the heir to the throne by the reigning Maharaja, Jam Saheb Shatrusalyasinhji Digvijaysinhji Jadeja.
In a signed statement, the Jam Saheb expressed joy while declaring his successor. “The Pandavas completed their 14-year exile on Dussehra and emerged victorious. I am pleased that, on this auspicious day, my dilemma has been resolved, as Ajay Jadeja has agreed to take on the responsibility of becoming my heir and serving the people of Jamnagar. I thank him from the bottom of my heart.”
Ajay Jadeja, who has a celebrated cricketing legacy, is part of a family deeply intertwined with the sport. His royal relatives include the legendary cricketers K.S. Ranjitsinhji and K.S. Duleepsinhji, after whom the prestigious Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy are named. Ajay’s father, Daulatsinhji Jadeja, was also a prominent figure, having served as a Member of Parliament for Jamnagar in the Lok Sabha on three occasions.
Jadeja is a former Indian cricketer and mentored the Afghanistan cricket team in the 2023 ICC World Cup.
A key figure in Indian cricket from 1992 to 2000, Ajay Jadeja played 15 Test matches and 196 One Day Internationals (ODIs) for India. He is widely regarded as one of the finest fielders of his time, renowned for his agility and quick reflexes. His most memorable performance came in the 1996 Cricket World Cup quarter-final in Bengaluru, where he played a blistering innings against Pakistan, scoring 45 runs off 25 balls, including an incredible 40 runs in the final two overs bowled by Waqar Younis, securing India’s victory.
Jadeja’s contributions on the field, particularly his sharp fielding skills and safe hands, earned him a lasting reputation as one of India’s finest all-round cricketers.
