Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra on Monday criticised the central government for suspending her from the last Lok Sabha session. She alleged that the BJP lost 63 seats in the most recent general election as a result of her expulsion.
Cash-for-query charges had led to Moitra’s expulsion from the Lok Sabha in December of last year. Speaking in a Parliament discussion, she said, “Much like Lord Krishna protected Draupadi, the people of Krishnanagar have protected me.”
She revealed that a lot of people believed she had lost a lot, including her Delhi residence and her membership in the Lok Sabha. She also mentioned losing her uterus to surgery. However, she emphasised, “You know what I gained? being free from fear.”
“I do not fear you. Your ED, CBI, income-tax department, trolls, media, and bought-out judges cannot scare us,” she added.
Furthermore, Moitra contested the government’s assertions about the empowerment of women. The BJP, she alleged, continues to hold the women’s reservation in Parliament because they are afraid of powerful women. “There are just 74 women MPs this time, with the BJP having only 30 out of 240. In contrast, the TMC had 37 per cent women MPs last time and 38 per cent this time,” she stated.
