Bhupendra Patel will be sworn-in as Gujarat chief minister for the second time on Monday, December 12, at 2 pm, state BJP chief C R Paatil said on Thursday as the party swept the Assembly elections with a record-breaking margin.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah will attend the event. “Bhupendra Patel will be the chief minister again,” Paatil said.
Bhupendra Patel said that the BJP “humbly accepts” the mandate of the people of Gujarat. “The results of Gujarat elections are quite clear. People have made up their minds to further continue with the journey of development in Gujarat. We humbly accept the mandate of the people. Every worker of BJP is committed to public service,” he said.
It is now clear that the BJP has won Gujarat most convincingly. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the BJP celebrations at the party’s New Delhi headquarters at 6 pm. The BJP is set to register its best-ever result in Gujarat, where Modi held more than 30 rallies in the final few weeks of the campaigning
Leads show the BJP winning around 150 seats. That is a record not just for the BJP but for the state as it betters the 1985 score by Madhavsinh Solanki, when the Congress won 149 seats.
The Congress appears to be decimated, down nearly 60 seats from the last election five years ago. The Aam Aadmi Party is likely to get six to eight seats.
The BJP has not lost Gujarat since 1995. Modi was the chief minister for 13 years till 2014. In the last state elections, the BJP won 99 seats. Till today, its best result in Gujarat is 127 seats in 2002.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s multiple rallies and a dazzling road show seem to have done the trick for the BJP, which is headed for around 150 seats in the Gujarat Assembly. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which is ahead in at least ten seats, has severely dented the Congress in the state. Most of the Congress bigwigs are headed for a loss.
The BJP’s best showing in Gujarat was 127 seats in 2002, while Congress under Madhavsinh Solanki holds the Gujarat record with 149 seats in 1985. The Congress’ worst performance came in 1990 when it won just 33 seats.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s multiple rallies and a dazzling road show seem to have done the trick for the BJP, which is heading for a clear majority in the Gujarat Assembly elections. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which is ahead in at least ten seats, has severely dented the Congress in the state. Most of the Congress bigwigs are headed for a loss.
Within minutes of the counting in Gujarat, the BJP appeared to have made a strong start, leading in 16 Assembly seats. The Congress was leading in six seats, including its key leader Arjun Modhwadia, who was leading in Porbandar.
