| Updated: November 22, 2023 15:47

A live caterpillar was found in a burger at Real Paprika Pizza Centre near Manki Circle in the New Ranip area on Tuesday. Similarly, an insect was also found in the food served at British Pizza, located in Vastral.

The individuals who found the insect filmed a video showcasing the live caterpillar, which quickly gained traction on various social media platforms. The incident was promptly reported to the food department of the municipal corporation.

According to available information, a young individual named Nikhil visited the Real Paprika Express Outlet situated in the Aaryaman building near Manki Circle in New Ranip. Nikhil ordered a burger and a pizza and, upon consuming a portion of the burger, discovered the presence of a caterpillar inside. He promptly notified the manager about the issue after leaving the partially eaten burger at the restaurant.

The concerned individual has lodged a complaint with the municipal corporation’s food department regarding the presence of a live caterpillar in the burger. Multiple instances of pest infestations have surfaced in the city, particularly within branded pizza centers and hotel restaurants. Approximately four to five similar cases have emerged within the past two months.

In a parallel incident on the same day, an insect was found in food served at British Pizza in the Vastral area. This pizza establishment offers unlimited meals at fixed prices. While enjoying salad and other dishes at the restaurant, a customer noticed an insect moving around on their plate. The video capturing this incident has also gained significant attention online.

Considering the escalating frequency of such occurrences, there’s an urgent need for thorough inspections of restaurants and branded pizza centers to ensure cleanliness. Taking stringent actions, such as imposing fines and sealing establishments, is imperative. However, the AMC’s food department team has only imposed fines ranging from 10,000 to 15,000, deeming it an appropriate response to these incidents.
