A tribal girl was killed after being attacked by an Asiatic lion on an agricultural field at Goradka village of Savarkundla taluka of Amreli in Gir (east) wildlife division on Friday. The incident took place during the early hours of the day, forest official Dr Anshuman Sharma said.
According to Dr Anshuman Sharma, she was sleeping in a field, she belonged to a family of migrant farm labourers who had re-located in Amreli district from Dahod. “When her parents and other labourers realised that the girl was missing, they went looking for her and found her remains in a nearby field. They also spotted two lions in the same area,” said the officer.
While nobody witnessed the lions taking away the girl, incidental proof proposes that the child was mutilated to death by the animals, he added. Forest teams have commenced the search operation for the two lions for further investigation.
