Bollywood has returned to its shining glory with successful movies like Gadar 2, Pathaan, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani and Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, which have made theatre owners and movie distributors very happy. The history of the Hindi film industry is very interesting. From the beginning of the first film studio to how top stars got their start, there are many things to be amazed by. Today, let’s take a look at the Bollywood movie that first explored foreign places. The Hindi film industry started filming in other countries in the 1960s and the first film was Sangam.
The late Raj Kapoor was the first filmmaker to take his cast abroad to film in beautiful European locations. Sangam, a high-budget Bollywood film, told the story of three friends. It was a romantic drama with lots of emotions. The songs were also excellent. While the late Raj Kapoor played Sundar, Rajendra Kumar was Gopal and the talented Vyjayanthimala was Radha. The cities of Paris, Switzerland and Venice were used for the honeymoon part of the movie. Some of the famous landmarks shown in the movie include the Grand Hotel Giessbach in Switzerland, Rome’s Vittoriano, the Eiffel Tower, Trummelbach Falls in Switzerland and Interlaken’s Berghaus Bort to name a few.
Sangam was one of the biggest hits for the film industry in that decade. It was also the last major success for Raj Kapoor as an actor. Gstaad, where Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan like to spend their Christmas holiday every year, is also shown in the movie. It seems the film had two intermissions. The audience was captivated by seeing the foreign places in the movie. Sangam also won many awards.
Back in the 1940s, Hirendra Kumar Basu made a movie called “Afreeka Main Hind.” It was completely filmed on the continent of Africa. However, it was not a mainstream film. Sangam, on the other hand, was a true big-budget Bollywood romance.
