The Congress has said that the BJP is “free to probe” allegations of a nexus between Ahmedabad-based industrialist Gautam Adani and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s husband, businessman Robert Vadra. Ajay Maken, the national general secretary of the Congress, said what is stopping the BJP from launching the probe. “Whether it is 2G, or Commonwealth Games, or Robert Vadra… these are mere allegations,” he said.
Recently, BJP MP and senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani countered Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s relationship with Adani. Rahul Gandhi during his speech on February 7 in the Lok Sabha showed a photograph of Modi and Adani together. Jethmalani tweeted four photos of Adani with other leaders and said that if pictures could be taken as evidence for ‘crony capitalism’.
Of these four photos, two were of Adani with Robert Vadra. The other two were of Adani and Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot and Adani and Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar.
According to the BJP leaders, Vadra had met with Adani at the Mundra Port in Gujarat in 2009 and had travelled in Adani’s private jet.
Addressing reporters at the Rajiv Bhavan, the Congress headquarters in Ahmedabad on Friday, Maken reiterated that Rahul Gandhi asked the PM in the Lok Sabha to reveal “on how many occasions did Adani accompany him on foreign trips”. “These questions were expunged from the House records,” Maken said.
