Delhi Police have detained Sagar Sharma, the prime accused in today’s security breach at the Parliament. According to authorities, Sharma, an engineering student from Mysuru, was apprehended carrying a visitor pass bearing the name of Pratap Simha, a BJP MP from the same city. Delhi Police have identified Sharma as the key figure in the security breach, and alongside him, Neelam Kaur has also been detained in connection with the incident.
During the live proceedings of Lok Sabha, alarming scenes unfolded as one individual was observed leaping on the benches while another dangled from the visitor gallery, releasing yellow smoke with gas canisters in hand. Social media visuals captured the chaotic moments within the chamber filled with the yellow haze. Members of Lok Sabha successfully overpowered the two individuals.
Gurjeet Singh Aujla, a Congress MP involved in subduing the intruders, highlighted the severity of the breach, stating, “He had something in his hand which was emitting yellow-colored smoke. I snatched it away and continued throwing it outside…This is a major security breach.” The passes used by the accused were allegedly issued by the office of BJP leader Pratap Simha, as disclosed by Amroha MP Kunwar Danish Ali.
Reflecting on the incident, Congress MP Karti Chidambaram recounted, “It was only after the second person jumped that I realized it was a security breach… the gas could have been poisonous,” emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation. The breach occurred during the Zero Hour of the Parliament session.
Dimple Yadav, a Samajwadi Party MP present during the intrusion, expressed concern about the lax security measures in the Parliament. She remarked, “All those who come here – be it visitors or reporters – they don’t carry tags. So, I think the government should pay attention to this. I think this is a complete security lapse. Anything could have happened inside the Lok Sabha.”
Further complicating matters, two additional individuals, a man, and a woman, were detained for protesting outside the Parliament building while carrying cans emitting yellowish smoke. Identified as Neelam (42) and Amol Shinde (25), the two were apprehended in front of Transport Bhawan. Police officials stated that a thorough investigation is underway.
