Prime Minister Narendra Modi was awarded the ‘Order of Mubarak Al Kabeer’, Kuwait’s highest honour, by his Kuwaiti counterpart, Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, on Sunday.
As an act of friendship, Kuwait confers the Order of Mubarak Al Kabeer, a knighthood, to heads of state, foreign sovereigns and members of foreign royal families. This marks the 20th international accolade awarded to Modi.
In a bid to demonstrate his support for the Indian labour force working in Kuwait, Modi began his two-day visit on Saturday by visiting an Indian labour camp.
In addition to interacting with the Indian diaspora, PM Modi, who was invited by Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Emir of Kuwait, had bilateral discussions with the Emir and Crown Prince Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah.
Former recipients of the “Order of Mubarak Al Kabeer” include George W Bush, Prince Charles and Bill Clinton.
