KSKVKU Faces Scrutiny Over Illegal Appointments Allegations and Bribery Claims

| Updated: January 8, 2025 15:33

Krantiguru Shyamji Krishna Verma Kachchh University (KSKVKU) has been linked to a recruitment scam, with illegal appointments and bribery as primary allegations. Given that there is already a pending court case against the institution, KSKVKU’s recruitment procedures are under the scanner, severely denting its reputation.

The issue came to light when these five individuals were appointed unlawfully on December 26, reportedly following meetings of the KSKVKU’s board of management and the executive council on December 24. The university ostensibly expedited the appointment process by taking advantage of the public holiday on December 25, which has raised serious concerns regarding transparency and governance.

Responding to the allegations, the university has said that it will adhere to the court’s judgment regarding the appointments which, it claims, is in line with the ongoing legal proceedings. However, this explanation allegedly ignores a High Court oral order issued on December 23 related to a special civil application by a candidate named Pradeep Kumar.

Additionally, there are troubling allegations of a Rs 12 lakh bribery scheme associated with a section officer position. Evidence has emerged in the form of a viral WhatsApp conversation that suggests monetary transactions connected to recruitment activities. This chat reportedly involves G Chauhan, an assistant registrar at KSKVKU, and a candidate from Ahmedabad, discussing payments for roles including that of assistant registrar and section officer.

Screenshots of this chat, obtained by a local media outlet, indicate a proposed payment of Rs 12 lakh for the section officer position. The serious nature of these charges has led to an anonymous complaint being filed with the state education department, prompting calls for a thorough investigation.

When approached about the allegations, Gaurav Chauhan denied any involvement, saying, “My short name is G Chauhan, but I have not chatted with anyone. The government should investigate this matter.”

This information has sparked public outrage, resulting in increased demands for accountability and reforms within KSKVKU’s governance structure. The state education department now faces pressure to initiate a comprehensive investigation.

This situation underscores the pressing need for enhanced oversight in recruitment processes at academic institutions to uphold fairness and integrity.
