Merced County Sheriff Vern Wernake said,” What we feared the most happened.” The sheriff’s announcement comes after authorities released a video Monday showing a man abducting an eight-month-old girl and three other family members from the city of Merced in the San Joaquin Valley, southeast of San Francisco.
Authorities have released the identities of the family members, including eight-month-old Aaruhi Dheri, mother Jasleen Kaur (27), father Jasdeep Singh (36) and Jasdeep’s brother Amandeep Singh (39). Officials had earlier said that the family was abducted by a robber. However, the kidnapper did not demand any ransom. The sheriff added that he believed the kidnapping was for money.
Police released a photo after four Indian-origin men were abducted from Merced County, California, by what they believe was the family’s abductor. They also disclosed the identity of the suspect. Officials said earlier on Monday evening that an armed and dangerous person has abducted four people including an eight-month-old girl and her parents and a family member.
According to media reports, the victim’s family was a resident of Harsi village in Tanda, Hoshiarpur, Punjab and had their own transport business in America. The family was abducted on Monday and their car was found burnt in the middle of the road. A suspect was detained after the kidnapping, who also attempted suicide. The kidnapper also used the family’s ATM card. It is said that the family was kidnapped at gun point.
