The Kerala government has mandated mask usage for one month. The notification, which was published on January 13, stated that it would take effect right away.
The government has not, however, provided an explanation for why masks are now required in all public areas, businesses, social events, and automobiles. However, according to the government, the state has never revoked the ban on masks in public settings.
Principal Secretary of Health Tinku Biswal said, “The decision should be seen as a precautionary measure. No need for any alarm. Also owing to the rise in influenza cases it is good to wear masks and use sanitisers as part of hygienic measures. The norm regarding the use of masks was never taken off in Kerala.”
In addition to this, the use of sanitisers has been made mandatory in all stores, offices, theatres, and other public gathering places. The rule instructs that social distance be maintained in all public settings.
The government made wearing masks mandatory throughout the state for an additional six months in August 2022. The most recent ruling, however, makes no indication of whether the offenders will be fined.
The Epidemic Diseases Act was used to issue the order. A smaller number of cases, though, have been reported in the state in January. Only 637 Covid cases have been registered in the state as of January 15th. 40 to 50 cases are often recorded each day.
