Prime Minister Narendra Modi is contesting from Varanasi for third time which will go to polls in the seventh and last phase of the elections on June 1. Eyeing 3rd term in the office, the Prime Minister will file nomination today.
PM Modi visited to Assi Ghat o offer prayers to holy Ganga, befor going to the Kaal Bhairav Temple. He filed nomination papers for 2024 Lok Sabha elections thereafter.
PM Modi held a roadshow yesterday in Varanasi and promised to continue working for or the overall development of the city.
Chosen as a prime ministerial face in 2014 by the BJP, Narendra Modi decided to contest from Varanasi, a city of utmost religious importance for Hindus. MOdi secured resounding victory against his opponents with a margin of more than three lac votes. Narendra Modi, now a Prime Minister, contesting again from Varanasi, defeated his opponents even more convicingly in 2019.
Contesting again in 2024 in the BJP stroghold, Narendra Modi worte on X: “I am overwhelmed and emotional! I did not even realise how 10 years passed under the shade of your affection. I had said that Maa Ganga had called me. Aaj Maa Ganga ne mujhe god le liya hai (today Maa Ganga has adopted me),”
Varanasi, comprising of five assembly seats has 75 per cent Hindus, 20 per cent Muslims and 5 per cent other religions. There are around 10 per cent voters belonging to Scheduled Tribes. Varanasi constituency has 65% of urban population.
