Popular Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa and his wife, Pavithra Gowda, were arrested for their alleged role in the murder of a man in Bengaluru. Apart from the couple, 10 others were also taken into custody by the police.
The 47-year-old actor and his wife are in seven-day police custody. They were picked up from his farmhouse in Mysuru and brought back to Bengaluru for questioning.
The victim, Renuka Swamy (33), was found dead at Sumanahalli Bridge in Bengaluru. He worked at an Apollo Pharmacy branch in Chitradurga and had allegedly sent derogatory messages to Darshan’s wife.
Swamy’s parents had filed a missing complaint but were asked to wait for two days. The murder was reported on June 9, after which a case was registered.
Autopsy report
The autopsy report has revealed that Swamy had injuries on his nose, back, leg and chin. The report revealed that Swamy was most likely hit by a heavy object. The post-mortem report will be handed over to police on Wednesday.
Three people confessed to the murder and said they committed the crime allegedly on the instructions of actor Darshan.
The actor and his wife were arrested based on a complaint by Swamy’s mother. Investigations are going on to find out whether the actor was directly involved in the murder or was part of the conspiracy.
Meanwhile, police have provided tight security at Darshan’s house at R R Nagar. Darshan is one of the most celebrated actors in the Kannada film industry. He is also a producer and distributor.
After beginning his career in television, he transitioned to the big screen. Some of his superhit films include ‘Kalasipalya’, ‘Saarathi’, ‘Yajamana’, ‘Roberrt’. He was last seen in ‘Kaatera’, which hit theatres in 2023.
