‘Kalpavriksha’, the ongoing exhibition of watercolour paintings by Swati Parikh at Ahmedabad Ni Gufa, offers viewers a beautiful amalgamation of spirituality and art. Themed around ten vivid forms of a wishing tree, the eclectic show has been put together by Swati Parikh, an artist and a software developer.
It took the artist over a year to put this, her second independent exhibition, together. “I look at concepts of mythology from different perspectives. I believe that mythology is an entry point for eternal happiness and that is something I wanted to express on the canvas,” Swati told VOI, “I try to understand different concepts of mythology and portray it in a contemporary style. For ‘Kalpavriksha’, I have painted ten different types of wishing trees. Each offers a distinct service.” The show displays a mild, muted tonal palette.
Swati explained much of her inspiration arises from her personal inclinations towards the teachings of Jainism. She has a strong reverence for vyakhyansh and the myth of the Mahasati and maha purushas of baher-sar-sacchay. Clearly, her religion has helped her grow as an artist.
‘Kalpavriksha’ opened on February 1 and will be open to the public till February 6, from 4-8 PM.
