Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav, reportedly involved in making contentious remarks at a Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) event, is expected to appear before the Supreme Court collegium to clarify his position on the matter.
On December 10, the Supreme Court noted media reports about the statements and sought an Allahabad High Court report on the matter as a whole.
“The Supreme Court has taken note of newspaper reports of a speech given by Mr Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav, a sitting judge of the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad. The details and particulars have been called from the high court and the matter is under consideration,” an official statement said.
In accordance with standard procedure, the judge who is the subject of a report from the high court on a controversial issue is given the chance to present their position to the Chief Justice of India-led top court collegium.
According to apex court sources, the judge from the Allahabad High Court is likely to be called to appear and present his case in accordance with practice.
