Champai Soren, Hemant Soren’s close aide, resigned from the post five months after taking the oath of office on Wednesday, paving the way for Hemant Soren to assume the position once again.
Two days after Hemant Soren, the former chief minister, was taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a land fraud, Champai Soren, the third candidate in the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, took the oath of office on February 2.
Hemant Soren was released on bail on June 28.
After submitting his resignation to Jharkhand Governor CP Radhakrishnan, Champai Soren, who was earlier reported to be dissatisfied over being requested to step down from the post, said in Hindi, “When the leadership had changed, I was given responsibility. You know the sequence of events. After Hemant Soren came back, we (the coalition) picked him as our leader, and I have resigned. I am following the decision taken by the coalition.”
Asked when he would take the oath, Hemant Soren, who was standing next to Champai Soren, said further information would be provided later.
