Each day begins anew. There must be something unique that it brings for all. That seems to be the push-line for Dolly Patel. She turned an entrepreneur at 50. But even before that, the desire to strike out on her own was always seated on the back burner.
Gifted with an aesthetic keen, she started off with lucky seven. “My first dabble in the trade was seven diamond rings. I just wanted to do something beyond the routine. The rings were an instant sold-out in my friend’s circle. Emboldened by the success, I started exploring avenues to source the raw materials, get expert craftsmen and set up an exclusive statement jewellery store,” shares the affable Dolly.
Now in the hot seat at “Dolly Patel Jewellery Store,” Ahmedabad, she attributes her accomplishment also to the tenacious upbring in a business family. As she says: “When you have to map the course and steer the ship, you cannot afford to take uncalculated risks. I had my share of downs but that was the thrust to push me higher and higher.”
Today her jewellery line specialises in jadau and diamond sets. Her pieces are a traditional statement, set in modern undertones.

Dolly also credits the success of her brand name to the solid support from businessman husband N.K.Patel and some “grounding advice” from mother Deep Patel. “She is the rock-solid pillar behind Sun Builders, the family enterprise. Her practical guide to risk assessment and block-by-block building came in good stead,” shares Patel.
Having completed the familial duties and created a loyal client base in Ahmedabad, she is now focussing on exports. “Jewellery will not go out of currency. Even now, it is a gift passed down generations and it is an asset,” she says.
Knowing her, it will not be long before her determination sees her raking in profits from jewellery exports.
