Demanding action against the anti-social elements who desecrated the sacred Shetrunjay Mahatirth hills in Bhavnagar district of Gujarat, members of the Jain community organised a big protest rally in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
Situated on the banks of Shetrunji river and about 164 feet above sea level, Shetrunjay Hills near Palitana city in Bhavnagar, is home to 865 Jain temples and the site is a revered place for Shwetambara Jains. The ‘charan paduka’ of a Jain saint was vandalised at a temple on the hills on November 26 last year.
The community is demanding action against illegal mining on the hills that is desecrating the region, and has flagged the issue of illegal construction.]
