Istanbul Airport has launched a program offering therapy dogs to its passengers to alleviate travel-related stress. This initiative, which was rolled out a month ago, aims to provide a more soothing and supportive environment for travellers as they embark on their journeys.
The airport has acknowledged the widespread anxiety that many passengers experience before flying. In response, it has integrated therapy dogs into its suite of passenger services, taking a proactive approach to address these concerns.
These specially trained canines provide companionship, affection and a calming presence to travellers who might be overwhelmed by the bustling airport environment or anxious about their impending flight.
Whether it’s a brief pat on the head, a gentle scratch behind the ears, or just the comforting presence of these furry friends, the therapy dogs at Istanbul Airport are making a significant impact on passengers’ emotional well-being.
Their unconditional love and non-judgmental nature offer a momentary escape from the stress and anxiety commonly associated with air travel.
One traveller, Anastasia Podmazova, expressed her gratitude for the service as she petted therapy dog Kuki, saying, “It relaxes me. I love animals. It is very good.”
The airport operator, IGA, buoyed by the positive feedback from passengers, plans to expand the initiative. According to Abdulkadir Demirtas, a customer experience manager, the number of therapy dogs will increase from 5 to 10.
“Travelling can be stressful… Research indicates that interaction between animals and humans reduces stress levels and anxiety,” Demirtas highlighted, emphasising the importance and effectiveness of this initiative.
