Kagiso Rabada has been acquired by the Gujarat Titans for Rs 10.75 crore during the IPL 2025 mega auction, held on Sunday in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Rabada, listed as a marquee player, entered the auction with a base price of ₹2 crore.
Despite his consistent performances, the Punjab Kings released Rabada ahead of the auction.
Renowned for his pinpoint yorkers and pace exceeding 140 kph during crucial overs, the 29-year-old remains a pivotal player in South African cricket, excelling across all formats.
Rabada’s arsenal includes deceptive slower deliveries and sharp bouncers, which have bolstered his career in international and domestic cricket, including a distinguished IPL stint. The right-arm pacer has been a crucial asset for his IPL teams, taking 117 wickets in 80 matches at an average of 21.96 and a strike rate of 15.5.
With six four-wicket hauls and best figures of 4/21, Rabada has consistently troubled opposition batsmen, maintaining an economy rate of 8.48 in the IPL. He burst onto the international scene with rapid success, securing his first IPL contract at the age of 21 when Delhi Capitals (then Daredevils) purchased him for Rs 5 crore in 2017.
Retained in 2019 for Rs 4.2 crore, Rabada claimed 25 wickets in 12 matches that season and went on to lead the wicket-takers chart in 2020 with 30 dismissals, guiding Delhi Capitals to the final.
In his debut season with Punjab Kings, Rabada took 23 wickets, though the team failed to reach the playoffs. He played six matches in 2023 and was retained for IPL 2024, finishing the season with 11 wickets from 11 innings.
For South Africa in T20Is, Rabada has delivered consistently, taking 71 wickets in 65 innings at an economy rate of 8.30.
