The Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) has announced an extension of metro train service timings in Ahmedabad on five days to accommodate spectators attending the upcoming IPL 2025 day-night cricket matches at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium.
The matches are scheduled for March 25, March 29, April 9, May 2, and May 14, 2025.
Currently, Ahmedabad Metro services operate from 6:20 am to 10:00 pm. On match days, services will be extended till 12:30 am. During these extended hours from 10:00 pm to 12:30 am, passengers will be able to travel from Motera Stadium Metro Station and Sabarmati Metro Station to any operational station on both corridors of Ahmedabad Metro, covering the Motera Stadium to APMC route and the Vastral Gam to Thaltej Gam route.
To ensure smooth travel, GMRC will introduce a special paper ticket for return journeys. Priced at a flat rate of Rs 50 per person, this ticket will be valid for travel from Motera Stadium and Sabarmati Metro Station to any operational station during the extended hours.
Regular contactless smart tokens, GMRC Travel Cards, NCMC cards, QR digital tickets, and QR paper tickets will be accepted for journeys until 10:00 pm.
However, after 10:00 pm, only the special paper ticket will be valid for entry from Motera Stadium and Sabarmati Metro Stations. Tickets purchased in advance for the return journey using kiosks, token vending machines, ticket counters, or the mobile app will not be valid for travel after 10:00 pm.
To reduce waiting times at Motera Stadium Metro Station, the special paper ticket will be available for purchase in advance at Nirant Cross Road, Apparel Park, Kalupur, Old High Court, Thaltej, Motera, Sabarmati, Ranip, Vadaj, and Jivraj Metro Stations on match days.
GMRC has clarified that metro services between Motera Stadium and Gandhinagar will operate according to the regular schedule without any extensions. On the specified match days, metro trains will run every eight minutes during regular service hours.
After 10:00 pm, trains will run every six minutes from Motera Stadium and Sabarmati Metro Stations until the last train departs at 12:30 am.
The corporation has advised passengers to plan their travel accordingly and make use of the extended services.
