Lucknow Super Giants shocked defending champions Chennai Super Kings to win their first match in the Indian Premier League by chasing a huge total of 211 runs at Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium on Thursday. Evin Lewis highlighted the LSG win with a 23-ball half-century the fastest of IPL 2022 & a superb cameo by young man Ayush Badoni who scored his half-century against Gujarat Titans.
The game took a twist in the penultimate over of the Lucknow innings, which was bowled by Shivam Dube. In the second last over of the innings, the medium pacer let up 25 runs, leaving youngster Mukesh Choudhary to defend 9 runs. Meanwhile, Dwayne Bravo made tournament history by dismissing Deepak Hooda 13 (8) to become the competition’s all-time highest wicket-taker. Quinton de Kock also played a key role at the top, hitting 61 runs off 45 balls before being dismissed by Dwaine Pretorius. CSK had been selected to bat first earlier in the evening, and Robin Uthappa and Shivam Dube helped them pile up 210/7. In response, LSG have made a strong start, with KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock both having partnership of 99 runs for the first wicket. Rahul was dismissed on 40 (26).

When Deepak Hooda holed out in the deep and Ravindra Jadeja made a superb, quick catch, Dwayne Bravo became the leading wicket-taker in the Indian Premier League. Bravo might have reached the milestone sooner, but Quinton de Kock was given a respite as Moeen Ali grassed an easy catch.
Bravo currently has 171 IPL wickets to his name. In the first match of the IPL 2022 against Kolkata Knight Riders, he tied Malinga’s record with figures of 3 for 20 off 4 overs.

Dhoni’s Milestone
In the coure of his 6-ball 16, MS Dhoni became the sixth Indian to achieve 7000 T20 runs. He came out firing, striking Avesh Khan for six and four after the latter had removed Shivam Dube. Andrew Tye bowled a brilliant last over against CSK, dismissing Ravindra Jadeja and Dwaine Pretorius with successive deliveries, but Dhoni struck a boundary off the next ball to get his milestone, as CSK finished on 210 for 7 after 20 overs.
