International tennis player with an ATP ranking of 1,166, Madhwin Kamath, 22, from Ahmedabad, has been booked by the city’s cyber crime cell after a 22-year-old woman alleged he had morphed her pictures, turned them into lewd images, then written her phone number below them before posting them online.
The woman also alleged that just before going to France to play in an international tennis tournament, Kamath had pasted the pictures at public places around her residence and also made them go viral on social media.
An FIR has been lodged against Kamath under sections 354(a), 469, and 509 of the IPC, and also under the Information Technology (IT) Act.
“As Kamath is not in India and has gone to France to play a tennis tournament, we have issued a Look Out Notice (LOC) across airports in the country to detain him. At present, we are in the process of gathering technical and material evidence against the accused,” a source from the cyber cell said.
According to sources from the cyber cell, Kamath’s family and the woman’s family are known to each other. “Both Kamath and the woman had differences over some business and professional issues. According to the FIR, Kamath photo-shopped the woman’s picture and allegedly misused it to tarnish the reputation of the victim to take revenge,” a top cyber crime cell sleuth said.
Kamath came into the limelight while he was in school and playing national tennis tournaments. He later graduated to becoming a major national tennis player and has also participated in several international tennis tournaments across the globe.
