Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot had left no stone unturned to repeat his last victory in the state. He did everything to change the tradition of intermittent rule by the Congress and the BJP. The CM had announced many schemes for the welfare of the people in Rajasthan. Both Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and party chief Mallikarjun Kharge organised camps in the state capital, but the BJP trounced all the efforts and won it with a bang.
Here are some of the reasons which reversed Cong fortunes:
Corruption of Congress ministers and MLAs: People of the state were not happy with the functioning of the ministers and MLAs of the Congress government. Due to the conflict between Gehlot and Pilot, the party or the government did not have control over the ministers and MLAs, due to which the atmosphere kept worsening.
Crime against women, paper leaks, corruption: Cases of crime against women were increasing since the formation of the Congress government in the state. Papers were being leaked continuously. Even ministers and officials were facing serious allegations, due to which there was resentment among women and youth towards the Gehlot government.
Gurjar vote bank disintegrated due to internal strife, Pilot’s neglect: Last time Sachin Pilot was the state president. For this reason, Gurjar community voted unilaterally for Congress. The pilot was later sidelined. This angered the Gurjar community, which benefited BJP. Modi also raised this prominently.
Appeasement versus polarisation: Kanhaiya Lal murder case in Udaipur. Police leniency on riots in Karauli and Jodhpur. BJP made the weak advocacy of Jaipur bomb blast accused an issue. For the first time, BJP did not give ticket to any Muslim candidate, due to which the issue of appeasement versus polarization dominated the elections.
Vasundhara Raje, former CM, said that BJP’s victory in Rajasthan is a guaranteed victory for PM Modi. His mantra is everyone’s support, everyone’s development, everyone’s faith, everyone’s effort, victory. Amit Shah’s strategy and JP Nadda’s efficient leadership is a victory. It is a victory for the workers, who are working day and night towards realizing the PM’s dream. This is the victory of Janata Janardhan, who rejected the Congress’s slogan and adopted the BJP’s slogan.
There are many reasons behind the landslide victory of BJP in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. While in Madhya Pradesh women and farmers expressed confidence in BJP’s guarantees, in Rajasthan the Hindutva card opened the way to victory. Congress’s loan waiver scheme in Chhattisgarh pales in comparison to BJP’s promises. Only Telangana gave relief to Congress, where rural and Muslim voters showed it the path to power.
