The Ahmedabad Crime Branch has arrested a domestic help accused of stealing valuables worth Rs 93.08 lakh from a residence in the Paldi area. The arrest followed an intensive investigation that combined technical surveillance and human intelligence inputs.

The theft took place on February 22 at House No 04 in Saritakunj Society. The accused, employed as a janitor in the household, allegedly accessed the house’s lockers using a key and password to steal cash, gold jewellery, and other valuables.

A case was registered at Paldi police station under Section 306 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The arrested individual has been identified as Mahendra Harmore, also known as Meena, aged 21, from Palsrada village in Salumbar district of Rajasthan.

Based on concrete technical evidence and local intelligence, the crime branch apprehended Harmore and recovered the stolen items.

Recovered items include cash amounting to Rs 3.76 lakh, five luxury watches worth Rs 11.65 lakh, gold jewellery valued at Rs 77.67 lakh, and a bag containing personal belongings.

Officials confirmed that all stolen items have been seized, and further investigation is ongoing.

A senior crime branch official stated, “The accused took advantage of his position of trust to commit the theft. The swift action and effective coordination of our team led to his arrest and the recovery of the stolen valuables.”

The police has urged residents to conduct thorough background checks on domestic staff before employment to prevent similar incidents.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine if the accused had any accomplices or a previous criminal record.
