The Indian Naval Ship (INS) Valsura will be honoured with the prestigious ‘President’s Colour’ on March 25 at Jamnagar in Gujarat. President and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Ram Nath Kovind has approved the award to the naval shop.
The President would be welcome with a ceremonial parade with a 150-men ‘Guard of Honour’ will on this occasion.
Shri Acharya Devvrat, the Governor of Gujarat, Admiral R Hari Kumar, the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral MA Hampiholi, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command and other senior civil and military dignitaries will be attending this historic ceremony. The parade will be telecast live on prominent news channels. It will be followed by the release of a Special Cover by the President.
President’s Colour is bestowed on a military unit in recognition of exceptional service rendered to the nation, both in peacetime and in war. The Indian Navy was the first branch of the Armed Forces which was awarded the President’s Colour by former President Dr Rajendra Prasad in 1951.
Built in 1942, INS Valsura is a premier training establishment of the Indian Navy. The ship is responsible for imparting training in electrical, electronics, weapon systems and information technology to officers and sailors of the Indian Navy, Coast Guard, and Friendly Foreign Countries. INS Valsura has distinguished itself with notable and gallant service to the nation over nearly 80 years.
