The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the India National Cricket Team’s 16-member squad for the upcoming One Day International (ODI) series against the West Indies National Cricket Team on Wednesday, July 6.
Along with former India National Cricket Team all-format captain Virat Kohli and top pacer Jasprit Bumrah, Rohit Sharma, the captain of the team India in all formats, has been rested for the ODI series. It should be noted that the aforementioned players did not play in any of the five home T20I matches against South Africa.
Additionally, the young wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant, who served as India’s vice-captain in the recently finished one-off Test against England and led India in the T20Is against South Africa at home, has been rested for the West Indies ODIs.
For the upcoming three-match One Day International (ODI) series against the West Indies National Cricket Team, which will be played at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, and Trinidad, the veteran left-handed opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan has been named as India’s captain.
Meanwhile, senior India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who captained Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for half a season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, has been named Dhawan’s deputy for the ODIs against the West Indies.
The selectors’ decision to rest the star players comes as the West Indies ODIs begins 5 days after the completion of the limited-overs series in England, which will be played from July 7 to 17.
