Passengers dressed as Lord Ram, Lakshman, Sita, and Hanuman boarded IndiGo’s inaugural flight from Ahmedabad to Ayodhya this morning. This comes ahead of the grand consecration ceremony of the newly built Ram temple, set to open its doors on January 22.
Ayodhya is preparing to welcome lakhs of devotees from across the country for the event. To facilitate this, a new airport, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last month, has been put into operation.
The flight marks the first direct connection between Gujarat and the historical city of Ayodhya. IndiGo had previously initiated flights to Ayodhya from Delhi starting January 6, when the new Maharishi Valmiki International Airport became operational. Direct flights from Mumbai are also expected to commence in the coming weeks, according to a top airline official.
During the inauguration of the airport, Prime Minister Modi emphasized his government’s commitment to connecting the holy city with the rest of the world.
