According to media sources, a 41-year-old man of Indian descent was detained in the United States on accusations of attempted murder and child abuse after he purposefully drove a Tesla off a cliff while his wife and two children were inside.
Following his discharge from the hospital, Dharmesh A Patel of Pasadena, California, will be booked at the San Mateo County Jail, according to a statement from the highway patrol. At San Mateo County’s Devil’s Slide on Monday, Patel, his wife, and their kids all made it out alive and were rescued.
Firefighters rappelled down the cliff to save the two kids, a 4-year-old girl and a 9-year-old boy, during the rescue operation. The two adults were extricated from the car by a helicopter crew. It was said that the rescue was almost miraculous. The Tesla was 250 to 300 feet down.
“Based on the evidence collected, investigators developed probable cause to believe this incident was an intentional act,” officials said. Witnesses phoned 911 following the crash, according to Brian Pottenger, the incident commander for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
The children’s car seats may have saved their lives, he claimed, adding that it was “very, very rare” for someone to survive such a precipitous fall. The youngsters had light wounds. According to Officer Andrew Barclay of the Golden Gate Division of the Highway Patrol, Patel will be charged with two charges of child abuse and three counts of attempted murder.
