A 40-year-old Indian doctor residing in the United States was arrested after being charged with numerous sex crimes, including recording thousands of nude images and videos of children and women over the past six years.
Dr. Oumair Aejaz, a specialist in internal medicine, is being held on a $2 million bond.
The investigation revealed that 13,000 recordings were found on a single hard drive and 15 external devices during their search.
Aejaz arrived in the US in 2011 on a work visa from India. After completing his residency at Sinai Grace Hospital in Michigan, he moved to Dawson, Alabama. In 2018, he returned to Oakland County, Michigan, to continue practising internal medicine.
His work history includes positions at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Township and Ascension Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc, Michigan. Most recently, he worked as a contracted physician across various hospitals.
On August 8, Aejaz was arrested for allegedly placing hidden cameras in bathrooms, changing areas, hospital rooms and even his own home. These cameras captured distressing footage of children as young as two years old and unconscious or sleeping women, all in compromising states of undress.
Authorities suspect that Aejaz may have uploaded some of these illicit videos to cloud storage.
The case came to light when Aejaz’s wife provided concerning materials to law enforcement. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office executed search warrants at his Rochester Hills home, revealing the extent of his crimes.
Before this incident, Aejaz had no known criminal history.
On August 13, he was formally charged with one count of child sexual abuse, four counts of capturing images of unclothed persons, and five counts of using a computer to commit a crime.
Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard emphasised the gravity of the situation, comparing it to the notorious case of Larry Nassar, the former sports doctor convicted of sexually abusing numerous young women.
