BJP losing Badrinath in Uttarakhand by-polls has the social media targeting the saffron party for losing in major religious places across India. Congress candidate Lakhpat Singh Butola won the Badrinath seat. Badrinath is a religious location known for Lord Shiva temple.
Rajendra Bhandari of Congress ditched the party and joined the BJP recently. He was the BJP candidate. The by-polls were held because the seat fell vacant after Bhandari joined the BJP. Bhandari, a former Congress Minister and a three-time MLA lost today by 5095 votes to the Congress candidate.
The internet was abuzz following this loss.
It must be noted that 13 Assembly by-poll results were declared today. Out of these, INDIA block won 11 seats. The results also solidified the Congress once again in Himachal Pradesh with the Party once again reaching a majority of 40 seats.
The BJP won two seats, one in Himachal by 1571 votes and other in Madhya Pradesh by 3027 votes. It also must be noted that the Congress candidate won Maglaur in Uttarakhand just by 422 votes.
Interestingly, while the ruling Aam Aadmi Party won the Jalandhar West seat by an impressive margin of 37,325 votes, the Janta Dal United of Nitish Kumar lost its Bihar seat. The ruling AITMC of Mamata Bannerjee won all four seats with huge margins. The DMK won the Vikravandi seat in Tamilnadu with over 67,757 votes. Party-wise, the Congress and AITMC have won four seats each, the BJP two and AAP, DMK and Independent won one seat each.
In the Loksabha elections, whose results were announced in June, the BJP lost Ayodhya (Faizabad seat which has the Lord Rama temple. The BJP also lost Banaskantha seat in Gujarat where a Shaktipeeth and a Goddess Amba temple is located. Congress won a Lok sabha seat in Gujarat after 10 long years which saw BJP winning all 26 parliamentary seats.
BJP has already lost Banda which houses Chitrakoot in Uttar Pradesh which holds great importance according to Hindu mythology and the epic Ramayana. Legends have it that Chitrakoot was the place where Lord Rama, his wife Sita and his brother Lakshmana stayed for eleven and half of their fourteen years of exile making it a revered site among pilgrims. Besides this it has lost Prayagraj, earlier known as Allahabad where there is a Triveni sangam and Goddess Ganga in form of a river is considered to be at its’ best.
BJP has also lost Nasik which houses a Lord Shiva jyotirlinga and is considered to be one of the important temples of Lord Shiva. Also, it has lost Rameshwaram in South which also has a jyotirlinga.
