With new green car debuts on the horizon, mostly SUVs, this year could mark a pivotal point for electric vehicles (EVs) in India. The recent roadblocks notwithstanding, including slow mass adoption and a clear lack of charging infrastructure, major manufacturers like Mercedes, Audi, and Tesla, as well as international brands like Hyundai, Tata Motors, Mahindra, and Maruti Suzuki, are planning to launch cutting-edge EV models.
In addition to significant launches of gasoline, diesel, and hybrid vehicles, the automobile industry should see a strong push toward electrification owing to tighter emission regulations and government initiatives to support clean mobility.
Media outlets have reported that Mahindra, one of the leading voices behind EVs, will launch some of its most advanced electrics in 2025. Hyundai is also expected to unveil a mainstream electric in Creta EV.
It’s only expected that Tata, one of the largest EV market participants so far, will not be left behind. Media reports have highlighted that both the ICE and electric versions of the Sierra SUV are anticipated, along with Harrier electrics and perhaps the Safari. Each vehicle is expected to be priced at more than Rs 20 lakh.
The Mercedes G580 electric G, which is already fairly popular online, courtesy of its 360-degree G-Turn Ballet, will also be introduced in India this year, making the multi-crore SUV one of the most potent and ambitious electric vehicles in the nation.
JSW MG, which is rapidly growing its electric vehicle business, will introduce the Cyberster sports car and the Mifa MPV to India. They will be sold through a brand-new ‘Select’ shop model, the report added.
Chinese manufacturer BYD, which presently sells in India through imports, is probably going to introduce the Denza N9 plug-in hybrid and the Bao 3 electric.
There will be a few new models on the petrol-diesel hybrid market, most notably the Kia Syros, which was recently unveiled and now comes in both petrol and diesel versions. An electric version of the Syros will also be available.
