The marquee clash between India and Pakistan in the 2023 50-overs World Cup was scheduled for October 15 in Ahmedabad. However, the match might get a new date owing to the Navratri festival.
According to India Today, the BCCI has been asked to change the itinerary in view of security concerns. A change at this juncture could be a logistical nightmare for fans who made prior bookings to witness, what promises to be, a riveting contest. Desperate fans, according to social media, went to the extent of booking hospital beds on the India-Pakistan match day since hotel rates skyrocketed.
“The India vs Pakistan World Cup match date might be changed as security agencies have alerted BCCI to change the date because of the Navratri festival. A source said agencies have told us about it and we are in discussion soon will take a decision. It’s not an easy task, there are so many things involved in any match so will have to look after each and everything. Let’s have a final discussion, then only can respond. But yes, if required to change the date keeping in mind security will do it if the situation comes,” sources told the media outlet.
India have an unbeaten record against Pakistan in 50-over World Cups.
The Narendra Modi Stadium, which has a capacity of nearly 1 lakh, will host four big-ticket World Cup, including the tournament opener between New Zealand and England, India and Pakistan, England and Australia, and the final on November 19. The semi-finals will be staged in Mumbai and Kolkata.
