As allegations surfaced on Friday blaming India for flooding in portions of Bangladesh, the Ministry of External Affairs refuted them, calling the narrative “misleading” and “factually not correct.”
Responding to a question during the media briefing, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “We have seen the reports on floods in Bangladesh, its narrative is misleading and suggests that India is somehow responsible for the floods. It is factually not correct and ignores the fact mentioned in the recent press releases issued by the government of India, clarifying the situation.”
They have also ignored that we have a “regular and timely exchange” of data and crucial details between the two countries through existing joint processes pertaining to water resources management, the spokesperson said.
Recently, there have been claims circulating that the floods in some regions of Bangladesh were brought on by an Indian dam’s gates opening, inciting strong anti-India sentiments among people.
